Renters Insurance
Renters Insurance policies provide coverage for personal belongings in the event of a fire, theft, water damage, or just about anything else that may happen. The average cost of a renters policy is $100 a year and can be broken into monthly payments.
Examples of personal property:
- Furniture
- Clothes and Shoes
- Linens and blankets
- Appliances
- Electronics (TV, Stereo, DVD player)
- Kitchen Items (plates, pots, pans, glasses, silverware)
- And many other personal belongings
Other important aspects of a renters policy are:
- Additional Living Expenses - If you apartment, condo, or home is damaged from a covered peril and you have to live elsewhere your policy will provide coverage for any additional expenses you incur.
- Replacement Cost - Your valuables will be repaired or replaced with no deduction for depreciation.
- Valuable Items - If you have valuable items like jewelry, furs, collectibles and more you can add them on to a renters policy for broader coverage.
- Personal Liability - This coverage provides financial protection in the event someone is accidentally injured while in your apartment. Liability would also provide protection against lawsuits brought against you related to an injury or property damage. If you accidentally start a fire that causes damage to the apartment building you can be held liable for the damages associated with the fire. Renter's insurance would cover the damages that you were held responsible for. Personal liability also provides coverage for you if your credit cards or checks are stolen and used with out your permission.
