Are you prepared for the new driver in your family?
If you're a parent with a soon-to-be teen driver, you may find yourself asking any number of questions about what you and your teen are facing. National statistics on crash rates and fatalities make it very clear that learning to drive is a serious undertaking, one that deserves your close attention. Most parents don't get the facts about novice driving laws, licensing requirements, parental role in driving, insurance and other issues until their teen comes home with their learner's permit.
AAA can help with Dare to Prepare, a pre-permit workshop that parents and teens attend together, providing them with critical information they need to know before the teen takes the wheel.
This free AAA workshop will walk you through the steps necessary to obtain a learner's permit and a driver's license in the state of Virginia. It also provides guidance and useful tools to help you and your teen through the learning-to-drive process. The program is not intended to replace driver's education or even overlap such a course. Instead, it is designed to facilitate early discussion of driving safety and answer questions you may have.
During the 90-minute interactive presentation, you'll learn:
- State and national statistics on teen driving
- Virginia's Graduated Drivers Licensing components
- Adding your teen to your auto insurance
- Parent's role and responsibilities
- Sample parent-teen contracts and driving logs
- Practical tips on teaching teens to drive
- The state of Virginia's requirements for obtaining a learner's permit and a driver's license
The program is not a driver education course or merely a lecture on the dangers of alcohol. It is an interactive program designed as a forum for parents and soon-to-be driving teens to facilitate discussion about driving safety issues and answer question about the learning-to-drive process.
Each family attending the workshop will receive a complementary copy of Driver-ZED and a free one-year AAA Basic membership for each teen—just for attending.
