AAA Roadsters

Here is a little about the tour...

Our AAA Roadsters were on the move once again when they boarded their deluxe motorcoach and headed to the "Black Hills and the Badlands" of South Dakota. This 11-day tour took them through Pittsburgh, Chicago, Sioux City and, finally, to Rapid City, where they visited Mount Rushmore, the Crazy Horse Museum, Wall Drug, Badlands National Park and the famous Corn Palace in Mitchell, SD. When Doris Day sang about the Black Hills of South Dakota in the movie Calamity Jane, it was indeed understood why this Indian country was so loved by the many visitors that have been fortunate enough to see the beauty there. The 11 days of touring, scenery, motorcoach games, hearty meals and shopping resulted in new friends being made, future travel plans envisioned and long goodbyes. The AAA Roadsters utilize the benefit of the AAA Tidewater Virginia motorcoach loyalty program to receive savings when booking future motorcoach tours.

During many of the AAA Motorcoach Tours the Roadsters are challenged to write a poem about the experience. Out of the five poems submitted, Mrs. Janice Liner's was chosen as the winner for this trip. Congratulations, Janice!

To Rushmore and More

By Janice Liner

T'was August 12th in the hot summertime
We left our Tidewater homes so fine

We got our group together in spite of the weather
And headed westward… all together

With Glenn as our driver
We rolled right along

Over hills, valleys, rivers and plains
Where we saw so much corn, sunflowers and grain

Sheila, our tour guide was always ready
With movies, bingo and whatever

We saw the "Kings Speech" and "Dances with Wolves"
We visited Wall Drug, and Custer State Park

Mount Rushmore was a wonderful sight
And we learned about Mr. Borglum
Who worked with all his might!

Pictures were taken with the presidents in view
Oh what a thrill for me and you!

On to see the Crazy Horse Memorial on the hill
We admired Mr. Ziolkowski's dedication and will

His dear wife remains and also his home
But she carries on, and doesn't care to roam

We've made so many friends
And had so much fun

We carry these memories of Badlands, Rushmore, and Indian lore
And eating food galore

May God bless each and everyone
And bring us together again under the sun

May you have more trips with Sheila, so fun
And Glenn, the finest…on the run

Now home to our pets and children so grand
And maybe no one to impose any demands

May you experience blue skies as you travel along
Many fluffy white clouds that look like a song

And we hope that someday we can go again
We'll pack in a hurry if it doesn't rain

AAA Travel will arrange our stay
We'll be off again and ready to play
