J. Theron "Tim" Timmons Scholarship
AAA Tidewater Automobile Association was on the brink of collapse when Mr. Timmons arrived on the scene as the club's new Managing Director in 1934. The local newspaper published his picture announcing his arrival and the telephone started to ring with bill collectors. Garages had not been paid. The phone company was threatening to shut off the telephone. Instead of packing up and running, Mr. Timmons reached into his own pocket and paid the bills. They had 850 members in 1934. Upon his retirement in 1996, AAA Tidewater Virginia had over 280,000 members and had achieved significant financial success.
Mr. Timmons passed away on February 24, 2002. As a tribute to him and his work, the board of Directors established the Tidewater Automobile Association of Virginia - J. Theron "Tim" Timmons Memorial Scholarship Foundation that will provide a $5,000 scholarship annually to a deserving individual.
The legacy of Mr. Timmons lives on at AAA Tidewater Virginia in many ways, the greatest of which is the culture of serving the members
