Keeping Senior Drivers Safe

What can seniors do to remain safe drivers for as long as possible? What tools can AAA offer to help in that process?

Keeping the Keys Workshop

AAA Tidewater Virginia is dedicated to keeping senior road-users driving as long as safely possible. Maintain your mobility by attending a Keeping the Keys class. This free 90 minute workshop will provide mature drivers with information and resources essential for staying on the road longer and safer! To register for this workshop, contact a Driver Training Specialist at 757-233-3887.

CarFit

How well do you fit your vehicle? Changes in vision, flexibility, strength, and even size and height can reduce a driver's control behind the wheel. Adjusting the fit of a vehicle may compensate for such changes, making the driver more comfortable and responsive. Using a 12 point checklist, a trained CarFit technician will evaluate the "fit" of the vehicle and discuss potential car adjustments and adaptations. The entire check-up process takes about 15 minutes per appointment. For more information, or to sign up for a CarFit, please call 757-233-3888.

Web Resources

The decision to drive or not to drive for a senior is often difficult, www.AAAseniors.com will help you and the senior driver in your life create a plan of action for the inevitable consequences of aging.

Another website for senior drivers, their families, researchers, and alternative transportation providers is www.seniordrivers.org. This site is divided into: Measuring Your Driving Skills, Education and Training, Planning for Continued Mobility, Other Useful Resources, and Researchers.
