About RSS

RSS (Really Simple Syndication, or sometimes, "Rich Site Summary") is an XML-based format for sharing and distributing Web content, such as Member Discounts, and AAA News Releases. So how does this benefit you? Readers benefit from RSS "feeds" by being able to subscribe to timely updates from favored websites or to aggregate feeds from many sites into one place.

Typically, many popular websites include a "sharing toolbar" that gives the user instant access to subscribing to RSS feeds, among other "sharing" tools. Many times, the link to the RSS subscription is designated by a small orange icon (similar to the image at the right), or the icon. The user would click the icon, or simply copy and paste the link to the RSS feed into their favorite "RSS Aggregator"--more on this below. As the content is updated, the "feed" will be automatically updated in a standardized manner.

Locate an RSS Reader

RSS/News Aggregators (also known as "Readers") will download and display RSS feeds for you. There are numerous free and commercial News Aggregators available for download on the web. Many aggregators are separate, "stand-alone" programs; while other services will let you add RSS feeds to a Web page (such as My Yahoo!, Google Reader, and Bloglines). You can even utilize the RSS Feed feature built into Microsoft Outlook 2007 and later versions.

You can also use your browser's built-in reader* (available in most browsers, including Internet Explorer, Firefox, & Safari).
